So, this was an interesting episode of The Voice. But mostly for events it created, not the show itself, which WAS fine. I guess.
First thing, Cee Lo and Adam Levine choose their teams. Team Cee Lo – Vicci is voted safe, and he chooses Nakia. This will have ramifications later. Team Levine – Javier is voted safe (such a SHOCK) and he picks Casey. This will have no ramifications.
First up is Frenchy, singing “Like a Prayer”, and it fits her voice nicely. She does NOT need the choir, though.
Then Nakia sings “Whattaya Want From Me.” Yes, that song, sung by THAT singer. Also by that other singer who also wrote it. He doesn’t want to at first because it’s not easy singing a song after Adam sings it. He doesn’t have Adam’s range, for example. However, he loves the lyrics, they speak to him and he does a decent job. Not Adam, but a perfectly good performance and we’re pretty much happy he did it and himself justice.
And then Adam Levine is asked to comment. And says he’s never heard the original (it’s possible. He’s a busy guy and maybe he just doesn’t listen to pop radio or other performers at Jingle Bells, or the Grammy CD song compilation with his AND Adam’s songs on it), but Nakia just “forced” him to like it (which is an odd statement) and that he probably sang it better than the original.
Yes. He said that. I heard him.
Big mistake. Well, not so far as I was concerned, because my feed was fun and I could forget the fact that I had dental work today. But Adam Levine? Oh, yeah.
The rest of the show? A blur, really, between the RAGE and the rage? And the laughing. And the people wondering what was going on. And the retweets of tweets to Levine from angry or bemused people (not all of them dedicated fans).
Dia sang “Losing My Religion” and was a bit off, I thought.
Casey sang “I Will Always Love You.” It was meh.
Adam Levine performed with Maroon 5 and Christina.
Beverly sang “The Thrill Is Gone” and she was amazing.
Javier sang “Fix You” and he was Javier.
Blake sang something.
Xenia sang “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” – meh.
Vicci sang ” Dog Days Are Over” and she was terrific.
I suspect it’ll be Beverly, and Javier for sure. Team Cee Lo will be torn between Vicci and Nakia. Dia was better than Xenia, so she’ll be staying. Votes are combination of viewers and judges, the judges turning in their votes at the end of the show.
Oh, and Adam tweeted. First: “Yeah Nakia! Saaaang boy!! Great performance. I think Adam might know who I am after this next album. Get ready for me Levine. Hahah ” (Nakia was so thrilled at this that when he tweeted his thanks and included his voting number, he got it wrong.)
Then “But for the record, Im def a Maroon 5 fan. Fans: there is NO reason to be angry. Thanks for being protective but it’s all good. 🙂 ”
Congratulating Nakia, making a joke and then a gentle wrist slap. That’s how you do it.
